Computer difficulties

I was wondering if any of you bro or friends might be able to help us. We have two problems. The first is rather simple, we bought songs on iTunes and cannot play them on our MP3 players. I asked my Bro-in -law about this and he said it was because iTunes only allows their songs to be played on iPods. If it is that simple, fine. But if there is software or a program that can make it so we can play our purchased songs on our purchased MP3 players, I would love to hear about it.

Our second problem deals with our computer. We have a iBook G4. I bought this old timer about 3 years ago or so. I have not brought it to an Apple store yet but I plan to once I find one. This thing will freeze up if you have more than one thing running, i.e. Appleworks and Firefox; multiple, like three or more tabs on Firefox; if iTunes is open it runs very slow, the same with iPhoto; if the computer has been on for a few days, which by the way used to never be a problem, I would eave it on for weeks, it needs to be restart and then it sort of functions better. I was able to clear up 16.45 GB in my HD by putting crap on my external. I did this several months ago when I had similar problems and it helped then. This time it didn't really make a difference, I did it about 2-3 months ago. Can anyone help?

This website will solve your first problem. You need to convert your AAC files (that's the iTunes format) into MP3 and then you can play them on anything:

This one may solve completely - at least help - your second problem. Pick the correct version of Onyx for your version of OSX (is it 10.3 you have?), download it, and run the maintenance programs on it (including deleting your "User," "System," "Cache," and "History" files):

Let me know how it all works.

You basically need a new computer about once every 3 years. If you are a mac user, then you suffer through 5-6 years because you overpaid for you device (Steve Jobs black shirts are custom, baby, and he's got to pay for them somehow). If you're a PC user, then you get a new one very 3 years or so (I just ordered a sweet Dell with nice big screen for about $700). The same computer from mac would cost at least 3 times that much.

So, go to Dell, build a new computer, and enjoy the new machine. You can download i-Tunes to your PC, so you can still use that database of music you have.

I don't know much about converting files, but dad's ideas look good.

I agree, ditch the mac and get a PC with lots of RAM so nothing will freeze up on you again. -Brett

So dad, I did what you suggested. It didn't seem to help. what it is doing at this moment is something I like to call delayed typing. It is rather annoying. As I type, nothing appears until I have done about twelve spaces or so and then the letters lowly will show up o-n-e b-y o-n-e. It does this often. We usually shut the whole down and the problem is gone.

ditch the mac. Problem solved.

Ditch the big mac blagh! In fact, ditch the nasty Mcdoodoo all together. But on a much less serious note, I agree with getting a new computer, a new pc. We are just a little tight on the dough right now. We just made a big batch of, mmm "pastries", we'll post pictures soon. I want Bobbie to approve the pictures before we put them on here. I would rather just fix the Lappy we have since it works fine sometimes. It just needs a little Metamucil run through it.

Then all the crap inside will go shooting out the rear and make a disgusting mess! Then you'll have to use Pepto to calm the incessant cramping. Then you'll need to eat loads of fiber-packed bran flakes to re-regulate yourself and you may never get back to normal. Don't do it it's not worth all the pain and anguish!
Wait, did you mean for the computer? Where does the crap come out of then? -Brett

I didn't read past Dad's comment and yours that followed cuz I know there are people with narrow or no experience that will say silly things about things they don't know about. I say this not out of reading any of the other comments, because I didn't read them, I just expect that to be the case.

I will, however try to provide actual help. I suggest going to the apple forums:

http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa

Here you can find discussions on your particular computer and/or OSX version in which you may search for an answer to your question, or pose a question yourself.

Good luck!
